Our Staff
GAVIN WHITEHORNE, LEAD PROJECT MANAGER
Gavin’s primary objectives are to ensure customer satisfaction and project completion. Gavin, like the owner of CORE, was brought up in the construction industry. Starting out working as a carpenter for his father, Gavin established himself as an exceptional Project Manager, which afforded him valuable experience around the home. Gavin began working with CORE Remodeling in 2011 as a carpenter and site superintendent. By 2013, Gavin hung up the tool belt and became a full time PM.
Gavin is originally from Vermont and has called Raleigh home since his youth. He currently lives in Raleigh and loves spending time with his family. He enjoys being a great dad, camping at the beach, and closely following his Patriots and Red Sox.
ADRIAN HARKEY, FOUNDER & PRESIDENT
Adrian Harkey is CORE’s founder and President. Adrian grew up in the construction industry which created a driving passion from an early age to build things. Shortly after moving to Raleigh in 1997, Adrian finished college at NC State and launched his construction business. His roots in carpentry have enabled Adrian to obtain the skills and understanding required to efficiently manage a project from concept to completion.
When he finds free time, Adrian can be found at the gym, running, mountain biking, or any other outdoor activity. He enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons and is a huge fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pittsburgh Penguins, and NC State Wolfpack.
CHERYL SZILEZY, ADMINISTRATOR
Cheryl’s primary role is to manage the daily office duties and coordinate product selections between client and vendor. Cheryl is the newest member of CORE’s management team. She brings a vast amount of experience from previous years in the construction industry.
Cheryl is married and lives locally with her husband. She and her husband have raised their children who are now grown up and have provided her with loving and affectionate grandchildren.
ERIC HENDRICKS, SHOP MANAGER & ASSISTANT PROJECT MANAGER
Eric joined CORE Remodeling in 2014 as an assistant carpenter and quickly progressed due to being a hard worker with a terrific attitude. His primary responsibilities include: working with vendors and crews to ensure timely and accurate material delivery on site as well as to assist our PM and Site Superintendents with construction needs.
Eric is originally from Ohio and now calls Raleigh home. He lives locally with his wife and two children but occasionally gets up north to visit family. When Eric is not taking care of his family or at work, he enjoys the outdoors including hunting and fishing, and is very active in his church community.

Process
INITIAL CONSULT:
From the first contact, an associate from CORE will visit your home to determine your remodeling wants and needs. Depending on the scope and detail of the job, many factors will influence the actual results.
DESIGN
Design Process for Additions and Structural Interior & Exterior Alterations:
At times, projects can be large enough to require formal design planning. In order to create our minds vision into a plan, we maintain a professional plans designer to create that vision.
Follow up consult to create design proposal
Collaborative design process between clients, designer, CORE to create a responsive design tailored to needs.Once final design is reached, we will engineer the design so a permit ready set of plans is created.
Kitchen and Bathroom Design:
CORE Remodeling provides kitchen and bathroom design services for our clients. With state of the art CAD software, we are capable of showing each project in plan view, elevation renderings, and 3D modeling where necessary.
BIDDING
Each project is bid with the same standards. CORE will create a budget proposal for our clients review. This proposal will be based upon feedback received during the initial consultation, design process, and/or certain budgetary measures required to provide figures close to a true cost as possible prior to any contractual agreements. Please ask CORE Remodeling for additional details about the bidding process.
CONTRACT
CORE will create a work binder for the majority of our projects. This binder will hold much of the critical data required to successfully complete the client’s project. There will also be a digital file created to access this information from computers or smart phone devices. Once this information is created and designs are approved, Adrian Harkey will meet with the client and review all of the details to formalize the relationship.
MATERIALS SELECTION
Each project starts with a vision. Once that vision is created, it is time to begin the selections process. We will supply each of our clients with a list of preferred vendors from which to make selections on decorative materials. These vendors have been selected by CORE for their wide array of materials housed in wonderful showrooms and experienced design representatives to help guide our clients through their selections.
CONSTRUCTION
Selections are being made or have been made and the permits are in hand. CORE managers will prepare your home for construction and dive into the demolition and rebuilding process. CORE laborers, subcontractors, and managers will be on site daily to fulfill the construction process until the job is complete through the final strokes of paint and pushing of the broom.
PROJECT COMPLETION
Upon project completion there will be a final inspection with the contractor, checking off the items from your preliminary walk-through. The next step is instructions for equipment and discussing warranties. Let the new space settle in for a few months. Make sure all systems work properly and follow-up for any repairs.
